Foundation News -Foundation News -“A Day at Manistee Ranch”

The GCPA Foundation, with the volunteer assistance of the Glendale Civic Pride Ambassadors, hosted “A Day at Manistee Ranch,” an old-fashioned day of family fun, on April 28, 2012, as a fundraiser for the Glendale, Arizona Historical Society. This event had something to appeal to guests of all ages. There were fabulous local country singers, a great antique car show, vintage tractors, children’s games, a petting zoo, and self-guided tours of the Ranch House. Additionally, Wildlife Zoo and Aquarium and Fallen Feathers Bird Rescue attended. Between the petting zoo, Wildlife Zoo and Fallen Feathers, guests had lots of fun interacting with, and learning about the animals, reptiles and birds.

The event helped raise public awareness of one of our state’s unique historic hidden gems that most Glendale residents are unaware of. Manistee Ranch was built in 1897, and was privately owned and operated for many years. Although the City of Glendale now owns the date palm park to the front of the property, the house and other structures are owned by the Glendale, Arizona Historical Society. In recent years, however, they have found it increasingly difficult to raise the necessary funds for the continued preservation of Manistee Ranch. The GCPA Foundation offered to do a fundraiser for them.

We had about 100 guests attend this first-time event and raised approximately $492.00 to help with the continued maintenance of Manistee Ranch. We hope to make this an annual fundraiser for the Glendale, Arizona Historical Society.
